They are sold year-round. When buying red onions, choose firm and hard ones that are heavier than they may appear. As with yellow onions, they should be stored in a cool, dry and dark place.

Uses

They are ideal eaten raw, in dishes such as ceviche or on tacos, hotdogs, pizzas, etc. They are also delicious in salads with cherry tomatoes and peppers; red onion jam is a delicacy served on hamburgers or on crackers.
